About Me, Carmen Roberts
I’ve been a travel journalist for more than 20 years, working as a presenter and producer on the BBC’s Travel Show. Having travelled to more than 80 countries in the world, lived in Singapore, Japan, UK and Australia – I’ve a wealth of travel tips and knowledge I’d love to share with you!
From humble beginnings to award winning travel journalist
I have produced a program aboard the world’s longest flight, filmed on board the world’s largest cruise ship, gone behind the scenes of the world’s most efficient high-speed train service in Japan and reported from one of the world’s most secretive countries, North Korea.

After the Asian Tsunami on Boxing Day 2004, I cut short my holiday in Langkawi, Malaysia to report from the devastated resort town of Phuket in Thailand.
I won the Best Television Travel Feature at the British Guild of Travel Writers Member’s Awards two years in a row:
In 2009 for my report on tracing my family tree in Scotland – click here to see the report
In 2008 for my report from Guilin, China – click here to see the report
Born in Singapore, my father was from New Zealand and my grandparents were Scottish. However, I grew up on Australia’s Gold Coast and moved to London in 2000. In 2011, I moved back to Singapore and in 2014 relocated to Tokyo. After 8 wonderful years in Japan, I’m now based just outside of London in the UK.
